The Viking in the Wilderness: “Stand Up and Be Counted” Review
The Viking in the Wilderness wrote a (as they call it) mini-review, which we have to say is one of the most well-articulated reviews thus far.
Enjoy!
Greek band Obscurus Rex released the EP “Stand Up and Be Counted” back in the spring of 2023, and metal is the style explored on this production.
This is a band that explore heavy metal in a manner and of a tradition that has an early 1980’s feel about it.
The songs tend to alternate between slower and more pacefilled sections, where the former makes use of groove patterns and compelling riff structures and the latter focus on the rhythm aspect to add an energetic vibe and drive to the proceedings.
Gentler side steps is a part of the totality, and the creative and artistic ethos of 70’s hard rock is a part of the larger picture too albeit with more of a secondary and supporting role in this case.
The vocals are melodic and powerful in a manner fans of early 80’s metal will recognize.
If true metal and classic era heavy metal tends to rock your boat, this is an EP made with people like you in mind.
The EP is now available in Digital & CD form on Bandcamp!
